The privacy of patients' medical information is a serious matter in hospitals and laboratories. After the leak of exams by former first lady Marisa Letícia, the question remains: is her confidential data safe? The answer, in general, is yes. Document management specialist Marcelo Araújo, from eBox Digital, a company specialized in integrating the storage of physical and digital documents, explains that there is no reason to be so concerned. “Today this is very well taken care of. We have a lot of technology involved in hospitals,” he says. In some institutions, medical records are stored in warehouses monitored 24 hours a day. Additionally, online filing systems must be password protected. The weak point in data protection would be the handling of this information by professionals. “It is necessary to have a clear policy on access to information among employees”, argues the expert. A good way to ensure security is to have a way to identify who accessed each information - this is called traceability.
